Shea butter – loved by Cleopatra, Queen of Sheba and Nefertiti. Evidence of this rich butter being in beauty regimes dates back to ancient Egypt. Naturally rich in vitamins (A, E and F), shea butter is bursting with beneficial fatty acids designed to protect and rejuvenate the skin. Used by three beauty icons, shea butter was an easy choice for us.
Upon advice in the 14th century King Ferdinand IV used grape seed oil to treat a dry skin problem. It was so beneficial he decreed it remain a secret and it became known as ‘royal oil’ or ‘oil of the throne’. No longer a secret, we’ve elected grape seed oil for its ability to hydrate and protect against free radicals. A study from the University of Maryland Medical Center shows grape seed oil can maintain the existence of collagen and elastin. It’s one of our favourites for it’s ability to balance combination skin.
Sweet almond oil and almond derivatives have a history steeped in Ancient Chinese, Ayurvedic and Greco-Persian schools of Medicine. Ancient Hindu’s originally crushed the almonds to use to treat dry skin conditions. Evolving into the sweet almond oil we know today, its reputation to nourish and soften skin has only grown. Traditionally used by Geisha’s as a make up remover, in modern times its gentleness is known to assist dry skin. Similar to green tea, camellia oil also has a reputation for promoting skin elasticity and as a great antioxidant.
